Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen has met Jamaat-e-Islami chief Shafiqur Rahman.

The Chinese envoy visited Shafiqur at his residence in Dhaka's Bashundhara at 10am on Tuesday. The ambassador was accompanied by Zhang Jing, director of the embassy's political wing.

The Jamaat chief was accompanied by the party's Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, Assistant Secretary General Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair and Shafiqur's Foreign Affairs Advisor Prof Mahmudul Hasan.

After the meeting, Parwar said that there was a "frank discussion" on issues related to the shared interests of both countries.

They also expressed hope that the economic, political, commercial, diplomatic and friendly relations between the two nations and the trend of bilateral development and progress will further strengthen in the coming days.
