The Jamaat-e-Islami has put forward a set of seven demands in an emergency meeting of its central executive committee.

The party urged the public to unite in support of its demands, which were finalised in the meeting at its central office Moghbazar on Thursday.

According to a media statement, Jamaat underscored the need to hold the election based on the July Charter, which it said would lay a legal foundation for building a Bangladesh free from autocracy.

The demands are as follows:

• Justice for all mass killings committed on Aug 5, 2024, and other dates.

• Fundamental reforms across all levels of the state.

• Full implementation of the July Proclamation and National Charter.

• Rehabilitation of the families of those killed or injured in the July uprising.

• Election under a proportional representation (PR) system to reflect the people’s true opinion.

• Concrete measures to ensure expatriates’ voting rights.

• Equal opportunity and a level playing field for all political parties and candidates.
