The BNP has proposed to bring about a new fresh amendment to the Constitution - the 16th - to restore the caretaker provision for overseeing national parliament elections.

BNP Standing Committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain raised the demand during a discussion at press club premises on Saturday.
“Your party (Awami League) has two thirds majority in the House. Immediately restore the caretaker provision through the 16th amendment,” he said, pointing to the ruling party.
After a court declared the 13th amendment of the constitution illegal, Awami League-led government had dismissed the caretaker provision by bringing the 15th amendment, which it could easily push through the parliament with its huge majority.
