The Bangladesh Nationalist Party is preparing a residence and office in Gulshan for Tarique Rahman, who is set to return to Bangladesh after living 17 years in exile in London.

The preparations come amid heightened political attention as the party prepares for his homecoming.

He will move into house No. 196 on Gulshan Avenue. His mother, Chairperson Khaleda Zia, lives next door in a house named “Feroza”.

A separate chamber has also been prepared for the acting chief at the chairperson’s office in Gulshan.

Another house has been rented in Gulshan for activities related to the parliamentary elections.

The details emerged from a press conference held on Tuesday at the party’s new office on Road 90/10 in Gulshan, where Mahdi Amin, advisor to Tarique, announced a national reel-making competition to mark the homecoming.

Tarique is set to return to Dhaka from London on Dec 25.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir shared plans for the party’s leaders and activists to line the streets to welcome Tarique.

The house where Tarique will move in was given to his mother after the assassination of his father, former president Ziaur Rahman. The decision had been taken by the then president Abdus Sattar.

Housing and Public Works Advisor Adilur Rahman Khan handed over the ownership documents of the house to Khaleda several months ago.
