Decision on adding BNP's Tarique to voter list to be made on Sunday, EC secretary says

The BNP leader and his daughter complete the formalities required to register as a voter

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has completed the formal process to be registered as a voter, but it will take one more day for his name to be officially added to the voter list, according to the Election Commission (EC).

Speaking to reporters after Tarique left the EC building on Saturday, the commission’s Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said: “Tarique Rahman, the acting chairman of the BNP, and his daughter Zaima Rahman have both submitted their voter registration forms today and completed the registration process here."

"Under Section 15 of the Voter List Act of 2009, the Election Commission has the authority to register any adult who is eligible to vote. In line with that provision, they have been registered in the voter list for Ward Dhaka-19,” he added.

Akhtar explained that the process completed on Saturday involved submitting what is known as “Form-2”, which includes providing photographs and biometric information such as fingerprints.

“They have formally applied to be included in the voter list. The matter will be placed before the commission tomorrow, and once the commission make a decision, their names will be added to the voter list.”
