Leaders of the Anti-discrimination Students Movement and the National Citizens' Committee have decided on a name for a fresh political party - the National Citizen Party, or NCP - with Nahid Islam as convenor and Akhtar Hossain as member secretary.

Nasir Uddin Patwary will be its chief coordinator with Hasnat Abdullah as chief convenor of the southern region, while Sarjis Alam’s role will be as chief convenor of the northern region of the country, according to a Facebook post by the National Citizens’ Committee on Thursday 5:56pm.

The name was set after meetings held at the National Citizens’ Committee’s office at Banglamotor earlier on Thursday afternoon.

“The name has almost been finalised. But we have scope for further discussions at night [Thursday],” said the organisation’s Member Secretary Akhtar.

However, multiple top Citizens’ Committee leaders confirmed the name of the new party.

The leaders of both organisations plan to officially reveal the new party’s name in front of hundreds of thousands of people on Manik Mia Avenue on Friday.

In the meantime, the names of several top leaders of the new party's convening committee were finalised.

Discussions are ongoing to resolve issues linked to multiple individuals eyeing one post.

Nahid, who recently left the advisory post, came to the civic committee office on Thursday afternoon.

Later, the top leaders of the two organisations sat in a meeting.
