BNP senior leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said his party is “happy” with the announcement of the roadmap for the general election.
Speaking to bdnews24.com on Thursday afternoon, he gave his immediate reaction, saying the roadmap indicates that the Election Commission is preparing to hold polls in February.
“We are optimistic about the roadmap,” he said. “The main point is that we are happy…”
Asked if he saw the roadmap as good news for the public, Fakhrul responded affirmatively.
Earlier on Thursday afternoon, Election Commission Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed unveiled the roadmap, a day after the commission led by AMM Nasir Uddin approved it.
The roadmap outlines around two dozen tasks, including stakeholder dialogues scheduled for the last week of September.
The plan includes consultations, meetings, briefings, training, printing, budgeting, ICT preparations, public outreach, a coordination cell, and inter-ministerial meetings.
BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury echoed a similar sentiment, calling the development “good news” during an event in Dhaka’s Banani on Thursday afternoon.
He said, “People are now election-focused. Everyone is waiting for a vote that will lead to an elected government and a parliament accountable to the people.”
“I believe people have already started making decisions they had put on hold,” he added.
