Mirza Abbas alleges Awami League, Jamaat colluded in DUCSU election

He calls Jamaat a “hypocritical party”

BNP senior leader Mirza Abbas has accused the Awami League and Jamaat-e-Islami of secretly colluding in the DUCSU election, claiming all Chhatra League votes went to Islami Chhatra Shibir.

Speaking at a memorial meeting on Wednesday in Chattogram, Abbas criticised Jamaat as a “hypocritical party” and claimed that both domestic and international conspiracies were under way against the BNP.

“Their party is responsible for the 2008 election,” he said, referring to the political context in which Jamaat and the Awami League played key roles.

Abbas also expressed disbelief over Jamaat’s student faction Shibir’s unexpected success in the DUCSU polls.

"I can’t understand how (Shibir) got so many votes. I don't want to claim it’s rigged, but I sense a deep conspiracy," he said.

While Shibir won nine out of 12 posts in the DUCSU election, BNP’s student wing Chhatra Dal failed to secure any position.

Abbas said the election resembled “election engineering” like in 2008, with votes reportedly shifted between parties.
