BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has attributed the absence of an election roadmap to the “political inexperience” of the interim government.
Speaking at the BNP chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Saturday, Fakhrul suggested that providing a clear electoral framework could “significantly ease” the country’s political tensions.
The BNP secretary general said, "What I think is that not providing a specific roadmap is partly their (interim government), it is more of a political inexperience."
“If a specific roadmap is given, the prevailing political crisis will be reduced to a large extent,” he said.
“Political parties will shift their focus toward elections, and many of the ongoing issues will naturally subside. This is the reality.”
“Awami League is no longer visible,” he said.
“BNP is visibly the largest party, with Jamaat-e-Islami following. Other political groups, particularly the new student party are also emerging.”
When will Tarique return?
Despite the resolution of legal cases against him, the BNP has yet to provide a definitive timeline for the return of Tarique Rahman, the party’s acting chairman.
Addressing the matter, Fakhrul said: “Look, it is very difficult for a political party to give a specific statement.”
“Especially when our strategy has not been decided yet—we have not finalised our election strategy.”
“When we reach a decision, we will be able to speak clearly on this,” Fakhrul added.
