The chief advisor's meeting with political parties, part of July proclamation preparations, has ended.
The meeting, which was scheduled for 4pm on Thursday, began after Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus arrived at the Foreign Service Academy at 4:17pm.
Members of various political parties joined within the scheduled time.
BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed and a four-strong delegation led by Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar joined the "all-party" meeting called by the chief advisor.
Zonayed Saki, the chief convener of Ganosamhati Andolon, Nurul Haq Nur, president of Gono Odhikar Parishad, Amar Bangladesh Party General Secretary Asaduzzaman Fuad, Convenor Muhammad Nasiruddin Patwari and Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Member Secretary Arif Sohel and Chief Organiser Abdul Hannan Masud were also in attendance.
Khelafat Majlis Secretary General Ahmed Abdul Kader led a three-member contingent while Islami Andolan was represented by Joint Secretary General Gazi Ataur Rahman and one other representative.
Among other attendees were Rastro Songskar Andolan Chief Coordinator Hasnat Kaiyum, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JaSaD General Secretary Shahid Uddin Mahmud Swapan, Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal, or BaSad (Marxist) Coordinator Masud Rana, and Jatiya Gano Front's Kamruzzaman.
On Tuesday, Advisor Mahfuj Alam said: “We have tried to prepare a proclamation in the past few days following discussions with various political parties and stakeholders.
“We talked to the larger political parties such as the BNP, the Jamaat[-e-Islami], women's organisations, teachers' organisations, different stakeholders, and students.”
“They all agree on the fact that the proclamation has to be made. However, we have not been able to reach a consensus on when the declaration will be issued and what content it will have. We hope to have an all-party meeting on Thursday."
After the fall of the Awami League government in the student-led mass uprising, the Anti-discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizens’ Committee announced they would issue a proclamation on the uprising.
On Dec 29, they officially announced they would present the July proclamation at an event on Dec 31, the final day of the year.
Hasnat Abdullah, convener of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement, had said at an urgent press conference on Dec 29: “The ousted Awami League will be declared “irrelevant” like the Nazis in Germany through the declaration of the July Revolution.”
Although the interim government was not initially involved in it, it later decided to prepare the proclamation itself, a decision supported by the Anti-discrimination Student Movement.
However, Mahfuj mentioned discussions with stakeholders would begin, though political parties have shown little interest.
