Presley Gerber, the eldest child of supermodel Cindy Crawford and entrepreneur Rande Gerber, has died at the age of 27.
His family confirmed his death on Monday, HuffPost reports.
CBS News had earlier reported that Gerber died at a rehabilitation facility on Sunday. The cause of death remains under investigation, according to Deadline.
“The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time,” a family publicist said in a statement first issued to CBS News.
Like his mother, Gerber was best known for his work as a model.
He made his runway debut for Moschino at the age of 16, according to HuffPost, before signing with IMG Models and working with brands including Burberry and Dolce & Gabbana.
In 2018, he appeared alongside his mother in a Pepsi advertisement that recreated elements of her famous campaign for the brand 25 years earlier.
Gerber had also spoken publicly about his struggles with mental health and addiction.
In a 2023 interview with the Studio 22 podcast, he said: “Having struggled with mental health, depression and some other things that come along with that, I think that whether I help one person or 100 people get out of that place that I was in at one point in my life, that’s all I need to do.”
“It is an issue. It is such a big part of my life. It’s a 24/7 job, and there’s so much to it.”
He continued: “That’s really what I want to do: help people, whether you’re depressed, you’re struggling with something that is having a negative effect on your body. I mean it could be anything, and there’s no judgment.
“I’ve seen a lot of stuff and I’ve learned a lot of things. What I hope I can do is have made the mistakes for some other people, so they don’t have to make the same mistakes that I made.”
His sister, model Kaia Gerber, had also spoken about her brother’s substance abuse issues in an interview with Vogue last month.
“When something like that happens in a family, it kind of levels everyone,” she said.
