Mustafa Monwar, the artist, theatre director, and art researcher known for his pioneering work in puppetry, will be buried in Dhaka's Banani Graveyard on Tuesday afternoon.
His body arrived at his residence in Dhanmondi on Monday afternoon.
There, painter Moniruzzaman told bdnews24.com: "Tomorrow, at 9am, Mustafa Monwar's body will first be taken to the Bangladesh Television (BTV) premises. His first funeral prayers will be held there.”
“Then, from BTV, the body will be taken to the Central Shaheed Minar between 10:30am and 11:30am. The body will be there until 12:30pm for people from all walks of life to pay their respects.”
The body will be taken from the Shaheed Minar to the Central Mosque of Dhaka University, where a second funeral prayer will be held, he said.
After the funeral, the body will be taken to the Faculty of Fine Arts at Dhaka University for half an hour.
There, Monwar’s colleagues and students can bid their last farewell to the veteran teacher.
After the formalities are complete, he will be laid to rest at the Banani Graveyard by Tuesday afternoon.
Moniruzzaman said that Monwar’s body was ritually bathed at Dhanmondi’s Taqwa Mosque and was brought to his residence around noon. The body will remain there until the afternoon. After respects are paid by his family and well-wishers, the body will be taken to the cold storage at Square Hospital.
