Sanjit Acharya, a renowned regional singer, composer, and lyricist from Chattogram, has passed away. He was 71.
He died at 7:15pm on Monday while undergoing treatment at the private Max Hospital in the city, his younger brother Milan Acharya confirmed.
Sanjit is survived by his wife and three daughters.
He is widely renowned for timeless creations such as "Banshkhali Moishkhali Pal Uraiya Dile Sampan Gur Gurai Chole" and "Amar Moner Bedona Bondhu Chhara Jane Na".
Born in the Chafra village of Chattogram’s Patiya, Sanjit was the fourth among seven siblings.
He dedicated his life to regional music, folk songs, Halda Fada, and Maijbhandari compositions.
Among his most popular songs are "Ore Sampan Wala..." and "Ore Karnaphulire Shakkhi Rakhilam Tore...".
His contributions played a pivotal role in shaping Chattogram’s cultural identity.
The family announced that his cremation would take place on Monday night at Abhoy Mitra Crematorium near Boluar Dighi in the port city.
