Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has thanked young people for their "positive response" to his Instagram video outlining the government's plan to curb exam paper leaks.
In a video message posted to Instagram on Friday night, he thanked his audience for engaging with the video and sending valuable suggestions, saying their affection for him would endure and strengthen their relationship further.
Modi had posted the video outlining the government's action plan on Thursday night, amid intense student protests against paper leaks at New Delhi's Jantar Mantar.
In the video, he explained the government's position, saying he understood that paper leaks were no small matter, causing deep pain for millions of students and their families, and that multiple steps had been taken over the past two and a half months as a result.
Modi said the main culprits had been arrested and sent to jail, but stressed that the government's primary responsibility was to ensure students do not lose an academic year, making the swift completion of exams a priority.
Outlining plans to set up fast-track courts to resolve paper leak cases quickly, the prime minister said the relevant departments had worked round the clock to prepare a draft proposal.
The cabinet will discuss it on Saturday before finalising the draft, with the government aiming to pass the bill when parliament begins its second week of the current session on Monday.
CJP Sticks to Demand
The Modi government has taken several steps in the days since police action against Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protesters, including transferring Higher Education Secretary Vineet Joshi and suspending 47 employees of the National Testing Agency.
Despite these measures, protesting students remain firm on their core demand: the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
A CJP delegation met with ministers on Friday and presented a set of demands, including adequate compensation for the families of students who died by suicide following the NEET exam paper leak.
Indian outlet NDTV, citing government sources, reported there are no plans to remove Pradhan because he continues to enjoy the full backing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership.
