The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin will address the nation at 7pm on Wednesday.

Election Commission (EC) officials said the speech was recorded on Tuesday evening.

The speech will be aired simultaneously on Bangladesh Television (BTV) Bangladesh Betar, as well as all private television channels and radio stations across the country.

One and a half years after the July Uprising, the general election and a referendum on implementing the July National Charter will be held simultaneously on Thursday.

Voting will take place in 299 constituencies across the country between 9:30am and 4:30pm. Voting in the Sherpur-3 constituency, which was postponed due to the death of a candidate, will be held at a later date.

Speaking at an event in Dhaka on Wednesday morning, CEC Nasir said: “Ahead of tomorrow’s election, I reaffirm the Election Commission’s unwavering commitment to holding a peaceful, credible, and participatory election.”

He said that security measures have been taken to ensure a peaceful election.

Polling centres have been finalised after extensive review and inspection, he said.

The election materials, which have already reached returning offices, are now being dispatched to the polling stations, he added.
