Independence Museum reduced to rubble

After the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government in the face of student-led mass movement, a group of people ransacked the Independence Museum at Suhrawardy Udyan, a historic site of the Liberation War, amid the celebrations. Bangladesh's first and only underground museum, which included many reminders of the country’s independence struggle, now stands as a pile of ruins.

The terracotta mural on the eastern side of the plaza square at Suhrawardy Udyan has also been destroyed. Five famous artists - Mohammad Eunus, Mukul Maksuddin, Shishir Bhattacharjee, Iftikhar Uddin Ahmed and Shyamal Chowdhury – contributed to the mural.
