Three journalists have been ordered to appear before the International Crimes Tribunal in a new case over crimes against humanity committed during the July Uprising.
They are Shyamal Dutta, Mozammel Babu and Farzana Rupa. The three have been asked to appear before the International Crimes Tribunal-2 bench on Aug 24.
On Monday, a single bench of International Crimes Tribunal-2 Member Judge Md Manjurul Basit passed the order after hearing an application by the prosecution.
Tribunal Prosecutor Faruk Ahmed said at the hearing, "Journalists Shyamal Dutta, Mozammel Babu and Farzana Rupa made provocative statements on talk shows and other broadcast programmes on various media outlets during the July-August 2024 uprising.
“The investigation agency has already found the involvement of these three journalists during the investigation of the crimes against humanity case over this incident. For this reason, the prosecution has sought a production warrant, or an order for them to appear."
After the hearing, the tribunal granted the prosecution's application and issued a production warrant against the three journalists.
