Another two patients have died of dengue fever while undergoing treatment at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal.

Shyamal Krishna Mondal, director of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Barishal office, said on Saturday that 28 people have died this year while receiving treatment at the hospital in Barishal.

The dead are 1 and a half-year-old Md Sabid, who died Friday night, and 50-year-old Abu Bakkar, who died Thursday after being admitted on Nov 17.

According to the Barisal divisional health office, 47 people have died from the fever in the division’s six districts this year.

Of them, 15 died in Barguna, three in Patuakhali, and one in Bhola.

From Jan 1 to Saturday, 20,401 patients were admitted to government hospitals in the division with the Aedes mosquito-borne disease.

Of these, 315 are still undergoing treatment.

Barguna has recorded the highest number of cases, with 9,315 patients admitted this year. Patuakhali follows with 4,177 admissions.

In addition, 1,576 patients were hospitalised in Pirojpur, 1,718 in Barishal, 737 in Bhola, and 765 in Jhalakathi.
