Sixteen children have died of measles or related symptoms in the past 24 hours, while 128 new cases of the disease have been confirmed.

Of the 1,306 people who have come to hospitals with measles-like symptoms over the period, 1,169 have been admitted.

So far, 86 people have died from confirmed cases of measles since Mar 15, according to the regular bulletin from the Directorate General of Health Services on Sunday.

Another 442 people have died of symptoms consistent with the highly-infectious disease over the same period. The combined death toll is 522.

Dhaka Division has seen the most deaths with 174, followed by 80 in the Rajshahi Division.

The DGHS says Dhaka hospitals also saw the most fresh admissions with 447, while Rangpur registered the least with 10.

So far, Bangladesh has recorded 8,622 confirmed cases of measles, with the suspected caseload hitting 63,813.
