Another 514 new patients have been admitted to hospitals across Bangladesh with dengue in the past 24 hours, taking the overall tally of admissions this year to 45,206.
No fatalities from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease were reported during that time, keeping the death count at 188
According to the health directorate’s bulletin on Saturday, Dhaka city recorded the highest number of new cases with 175 admissions.
Another 111 were admitted in the Dhaka Division, 15 in Mymensingh, 90 in Chattogram, eight in Rajshahi, and 115 in Barishal.
With Saturday’s admissions, hospitalisations in September climbed to 13,730 -- the highest monthly figure in 2025.
The previous peak was in July, which saw 10,684 hospitalisations.
Monthly admissions earlier in the year were: 1,161 in January, 374 in February, 336 in March, 701 in April, 1,773 in May, 5,951 in June, and 10,496 in August.
September has also recorded the highest number of dengue deaths this year, with 66 fatalities. The next highest was in July, with 41 deaths.
Other monthly death counts are: 10 in January, three in February, none in March, seven in April, three in May, 19 in June, and 39 in August.
Currently, 2,047 dengue patients remain hospitalised nationwide -- 747 in Dhaka hospitals and 1,300 in hospitals outside the capital.
The health directorate has tracked dengue cases since 2000. The worst outbreak came in 2023, when 321,179 patients were hospitalised and 1,705 died.
