Dengue deaths and hospital admissions have continued to rise in Bangladesh, with two fatalities and 1,232 new patients recorded over the past 24 hours.
Both people who died were from Dhaka South City Corporation.
This year's dengue toll now stands at 178, according to government figures. Of these, 81 died in September alone, the highest monthly toll this year.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in its Saturday bulletin that 154 patients were admitted in Dhaka North City Corporation and 175 in Dhaka South in the 24 hours up to 8am Saturday.
Another 85 were admitted outside the two city corporations in Dhaka Division.
Elsewhere, 177 were admitted in Barishal, 194 in Chattogram, 258 in Khulna, 54 in Mymensingh, 82 in Rajshahi, 47 in Rangpur and six in Sylhet.
Another 1,232 patients were discharged after treatment over the same period, the bulletin said.
So far this year, 60,379 people have been hospitalised with dengue, with 56,070 discharged.
The DGHS has tracked dengue cases and deaths since 2000. The worst year was 2023, with 321,179 hospitalisations and 1,705 deaths.
Last year, dengue killed more than 400 people, with around 102,000 cases detected.
