Three more children with symptoms consistent with measles have died in the Sylhet Division over the last 24-hour period.

They died while undergoing treatment at two separate hospitals, according to Sylhet Health Division Assistant Director Mohammad Noor Alam Shameem.

The death toll among children in the division has hit 40 this year.

Ishita Kaher, a six-month old who hailed from Moulvibazar’s Sreemangal Upazila, died at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College.

Susmita, a nine-month-old who hailed from the Moulvibazar Sadar Upazila, and Labiba, a nine-month-old who resided in Sylhet city, passed away at Sylhet Sahid Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital.

According to health division data, 92 people with measles-like symptoms were admitted to hospitals across the division between 8am Monday and 8am Tuesday.

A total of 281 patients with such symptoms are now undergoing treatment in hospitals across Sylhet Division.

Among them, 70 are being treated at Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital and 77 at Osmani Hospital, while the others are admitted to public and private hospitals elsewhere in the division.

However, none of the Sylhet Division samples tested in the past 24 hours were positive for measles.

Since Jan 1, the division has recorded 149 lab-confirmed cases of measles.

Of the deaths reported so far, 36 were patients with measles-like symptoms, while four were confirmed cases.
