Two more people have died of dengue while 723 new patients have been hospitalised with the Aedes mosquito-borne disease across Bangladesh over the past 24-hour count.
According to data released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday, the latest fatalities bring the total toll from the illness to 63 this year, with nine of those deaths recorded in August alone.
Between 8am on Tuesday and 8am on Wednesday, 723 people were admitted to hospitals across the country with dengue.
Of them, 101 were hospitalised in Dhaka North City Corporation, while 112 were admitted to hospitals under Dhaka South City Corporation.
Another 107 patients were admitted outside the two Dhaka city corporations.
Across other divisions, Barishal recorded 101 hospitalisations, Chattogram 83, Khulna 98, Mymensingh 45, Rajshahi 63, Rangpur 12, and Sylhet registered one.
During the same 24-hour window, 712 patients were discharged following recovery.
Official figures show that 21,550 people have been hospitalised with dengue since Jan 1 this year, with 19,894 having recovered and left hospital so far.
The health directorate has been keeping records of dengue hospitalisations and fatalities since 2000.
Since then, a record 321,179 dengue hospitalisations were logged in 2023. That year also saw the most deaths with 1,705.
In 2025, over 400 fatalities were recorded out of around 102,000 cases nationwide.
