Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has proposed to double assistance for those suffering from cancer and five other diseases in the new fiscal year.

The minister said, “One-time assistance for those suffering from cancer and five other incurable diseases will be increased from Tk 50,000 to Tk 100,000.”

On Thursday at 3pm, he presented the Tk 9.38 trillion budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year in parliament.

Currently, a one-time payment of Tk 50,000 is being implemented under the social security programme for those suffering from cancer, kidney and liver cirrhosis, stroke paralysis, congenital heart disease, and thalassemia.

Khosru said, “I am proposing to allocate Tk 1.44 trillion for the social security sector in the fiscal year 2026-27.”

The allocation in the revised budget for the previous fiscal year 2025-26 was Tk 1.27 trillion.
