A love story between a Bangladeshi widow and a small-time Indian businessman has got an Indian national award for regional films on a day Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina touched down in Delhi.

The director, Kaushik Ganguly, says he is sending a DVD of 'Bisorjon' (Immersion) to the Bangladesh prime minister for private viewing when she is in Delhi.

"The film's lead actress Joya Ahsan is from Bangladesh and she wants her PM to see the film. I will ensure that happens," Ganguly told bdnews24.com.

Joya Ahsan will soon be receiving her third National Award in Bangladesh for her performance in 'Zero Degree.'

"An award for 'Bisorjon' at a time when Bangladesh Prime Minister is in India will boost more collaborations in film production between the two nations," said Abir Chatterjee, the film's lead actor as Nasir Ali and famous for his role as detective Byomkesh Bakshi.

Adjudged the best feature film (Bengali) in the Indian National Film Awards 2017, 'Bisorjon' will be released on Bengali New Year Day (April 14).

Ganguly is keen that his film is commercially released in Bangladesh soonest possible.

Many recent India-Bangla co-productions have been released in both countries, but 'Bisorjon' is not a joint production.

Ganguly is worried that if the film is not commercially released soon in Bangladesh, it may fall a victim to piracy.

"I wish both countries took up the issue seriously," he said.
