Bhawal Resort, Hotel X among 7 fined for operating without environmental clearance

Bhawal Resort alone has been fined Tk 24 million

The government has slapped Bhawal Resort and Spa, Hotel X, and five other business entities in Gazipur with a total of Tk 29.21 million in fines for operating without environmental clearance.

Bhawal Resort alone has been penalised Tk 24 million.

All of these organisations have been ordered to cease operations until they obtain the required permission, said Md Nayan Mia, a deputy director of the Department of Environment’s Gazipur office.

Speaking to http://bdnews24.com on Sunday, he said the department’s Monitoring and Enforcement Wing found irregularities in the organisations during inspections in the past few days.

The owners were called to the department on May 14 and the fines were slapped after hearings.

Bhawal Resort and Hotel X are accused of continuing business for a long time by grabbing forest land and damaging the environment.

Hotel X, United Shakti Limited, Quality Integrated Agro Limited and Meghna Associates Limited were fined Tk 1 million each, while Swan Knit Composite was penalised Tk 1.2 million and Holly Care Diagnostic Centre Tk 10,000.
