Buildings of around 11,000 educational institutions in Bangladesh are in shabby condition, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid told Parliament.

“The number of educational institutions with buildings needed to be renovated is 10,960,” he said on Monday during a question-answer session.
Tk 370 million—allocated in the current fiscal’s budget— have been spent to complete unfinished construction for 271 schools and renovating another 1,702 schools, Nahid told the House.
Replying a query, the minister said the government would consider inclusion of more schools under its Monthly Payment Order (MPO) scheme upon budgetary allocations.
