Bangladesh Bank Governor Atiur Rahman says the financial institutions will have to give at least 5 percent of their total credit to the environment-friendly industry sector by 2016.

“All the banks and financial institutions have become involved in green financing to build up environment-friendly industries,” he told a seminar in Dhaka on Saturday.
He said the central bank had introduced re-financing schemes for 47 green products and one from the readymade garment sector.
Atiur was advocating for environment-friendly industries for the country's development.
In December, he ordered formation of an ‘advisory committee’ headed by the central bank to facilitate environment-friendly green financing.
Speaking at Saturday’s seminar the governor said, “All financial institutions have been ordered to give at least 5 percent of their total credit disbursement to environment-friendly industries by 2016.”
