The Advisory Council of the interim government has given its final approval for the Tk 7.9 trillion national budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus at his office in Tejgaon on Sunday, confirmed the Chief Advisor's Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder.

The finance advisor is scheduled to hold a press conference at the Ministry of Finance in the afternoon to provide more details.

Finance Advisor Salehuddin Ahmed presented the budget on television on Jun 2. The budget is estimated at Tk 7.9 trillion, down Tk 70 billion from that of the current fiscal year. The finance advisor set a GDP growth target of 5.5 percent in the budget.

The budget proposal has provided the opportunity to legalise black money or undisclosed income in various categories, which many have criticised as a continuation of the policies of previous governments. It is expected that this facility may be removed in the final approval.
