Shakib breaks into elite all-rounders’ club with 4000 runs and 200 wickets

Shakib Al Hasan has stormed into the club of elite allrounders who have scored 4000 runs and taken 200 wickets, a ‘double’, in ODIs as the seventh player in history.

The Bangladesh allrounder, however, pulled off the rare feat playing the lowest number of matches -156 - to rise to top echelon.

Shakib is followed by Pakistan’s Abdul Razzaq (206), New Zealand’s Chris Cairns (213), South Africa’s Jacques Kallis (221), Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya (235), Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi (238) and New Zealand’s Chris Harris (244).

Shakib had crossed the 4000-run mark long ago. He was waiting to join the ‘double’ club only by picking the 200th wicket, and did it in the match against South Africa on Wednesday.

In the past four matches, he got only one wicket. He started the third ODI against the Proteas on 198 wickets.

He touched the 200-wicket milestone by picking the wickets of Faf du Plessis and Hashim Amla in the first spell, and crossed it by sending Farhaan Behardien back.

Bangladesh won the match by nine wickets to seal the fourth straight ODI series at home.
