East West University celebrates 30 years with campus festivities

East West University has celebrated its 30th founding anniversary with daylong festivities at its Aftabnagar campus in Dhaka.

The celebrations were held on Saturday, with members of the Board of Trustees, administration, faculty, students and alumni taking part, the university said in media statement.

The event began in the morning with the release of colourful balloons, followed by a rally around the campus and surrounding areas.

A reflection session and cultural programme were later held on the university’s open premises.

EWU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Shams Rahman welcomed the guests at the reflection session, while Prof Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, the university’s founder VC and chairperson of its Board of Trustees, spoke about its three decades of achievements.

Dr Rubana Huq, VC of Asian University for Women and an EWU alumna, also spoke at the event, while former EWU VC Prof Dr MM Shahidul Hassan shared his memories of the university.

Speakers looked back on EWU’s journey since its establishment in September 1996 with 20 students, highlighting its achievements in education and research over the past three decades.

They also outlined a strategic vision for strengthening the university’s global standing in the coming years.

Students, alumni and faculty members performed at a cultural event held during and at the end of the celebrations.

Members of the Board of Trustees, pro-VC, treasurer, deans, department chairs, faculty members, current students and alumni attended the event, the statement said.
