Jagannath University has suspended all classes and examinations for Sunday after repeated tremors in short intervals left students and staff on edge, following similar steps taken by Dhaka University.

The decision comes a day after Friday’s strong earthquake, which was followed by three more tremors on Saturday.

Although academic activities will remain suspended, the university’s administrative operations will run normally.

Preparations for the Jagannath University Central Students’ Union (JnUCSU) elections will also continue.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Rezaul Karim said, “Frequent tremors in the capital have created panic among everyone, including the students. So we are keeping classes and exams closed for Sunday.”

The university’s Public Relations, Information and Publication Office issued a notice confirming the suspension.

The notice said student transport services will remain suspended, but staff buses will operate.

All JnUCSU election activities will proceed as scheduled, and postponed exams will be held under a revised timetable, it added.
