Dhaka, Sep 26 (bdnews24.com) – The Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology authorities on Wednesday effected some changes in the administration by changing the Director of Students' Welfare (DSW) and the Examination Controller.
Civil Engineering Department Professor Mohammad Delwar Hossain was made the new DSW, and Computer Science and Engineering Department Professor Abul Kashem Mia the new Examination Controller.
BUET Vice-Chancellor SM Nazrul Islam ordered the changes on Tuesday, Registrar Abu Siddique told bdnews24.com on Wednesday.
Before Delwar Hossain and Abul Kashem, Professor Moazzem Hossain and Professor Nazrul Islam held the posts of the Examination Controller and the DSW, respectively.
Both were holding additional responsibilities, Siddique said.
Asked for the reasons for the changes, he said, "Only the Vice-Chancellor can do this by dint of the power vested in him."
University activities and classes resumed in BUET on Sept 15, after two months of deadlock and agitation by the students and teachers demanding the removal of the VC Nazrul Islam and Pro-VC Habibur Rahman raising allegations of irregularities in running the administration against them.
The demonstrating students and teachers agreed to call off the agitation after the government assured them to remove the Pro-VC.
The government on Sep 9 removed Prof Habibur Rahman. The move met one of the assurances Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid had made to the protesters to pull the top engineering university out of the turmoil through different administrative changes.
According to the rescheduled academic calendar, classes will continue until Oct 19.
The vacations for Durga Puja and Eid-ul-Azha would begin from Oct 20 to Nov 2 while the examinations preparatory leave would start from Nov 3 to Nov 16.
The exams are scheduled to begin from Nov 17 and end on Dec 20.
