Md Shah Amran, professor of pharmacy at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) has been appointed a full-time member of the Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC).
The Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education issued the appointment on Jul 26 under the Bangladesh Accreditation Council Act, 2017, for a four-year term.
Prof Amran is one of three members named in the order.
He previously served as professor and chairman of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the Dhaka University before retirement.
He obtained his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in pharmacy, both with first class, from the Dhaka University, and a PhD from Japan's University of Yamanashi.
Prof Amran began his teaching career in 1996 as a lecturer in the Department of Pharmacy at the Rajshahi University.
Before entering academia, he worked in the pharmaceutical industry as a production pharmacist at Beximco Pharmaceuticals and Unique Pharmaceuticals, and as a quality assurance officer at Jayson Pharmaceuticals.
He has published more than 175 research articles in peer-reviewed national and international journals, and has authored 16 books and five book chapters.
He has supervised 23 MPharm, five MPhil and six PhD researchers.
Prof Amran joined IUB as a professor in 2025.
BAC is the autonomous government body responsible for quality assurance and accreditation across Bangladesh's higher education sector.
Established under the Bangladesh Accreditation Council Act, 2017, it accredits universities and academic programmes against national and international standards.
