The 1st BUFT National Apparel Festival 2026, organised by the BUFT Apparel Club (BAC), has concluded after two days of competitions, exhibitions, seminars, and cultural programmes.
The festival, which ended on Jul 19 at the BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) campus, brought together over 2,000 undergraduate students from textile, fashion, and apparel engineering backgrounds across 32 universities, colleges, and student clubs from across Bangladesh.
The event opened on Jul 18, chaired by BUFT Vice-Chancellor (Designate) Prof Ayub Nabi Khan.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees Faruque Hassan attended as chief guest, alongside special guests from the Bangladesh Jute Research Institute (BJRI) Md Moslem Uddin, director of the Technical Wing (Current Charge); Ferdous Ara Dilruba, director (Jute Textile/PTC); and Nazmina Chowdhury, chief scientific officer (Jute Textile Wing).
Also present were Pro-Vice Chancellor (Acting) Prof Md Alamgir Hossain, Dean of Faculty of Apparel Studies Prof Mohammed Rubaiyat Chowdhury, Students' Welfare Office Director Prof Md Waliul Alam, Head of the Department of Apparel Manufacturing & Technology (AMT) Asst Prof Md Monirul Islam Rajib, and BUFT Apparel Club Advisor Shadman Quamar Mahir.
Day one featured the opening ceremony followed by preliminary competition rounds, including the Apparel Olympiad, a quiz on global fashion trends and textile science, and a 300 Seconds Innovation poster presentation on textile sustainability and apparel innovation. Workshops and other engagement activities also took place.
Day two opened with final competition rounds and student exhibitions at the Exhibition Arena, followed by seminars and masterclasses.
Hassan again attended as chief guest, joined by special guests Fakir Fashion Managing Director Fakir Kamruzzaman Nahid, Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) President Showkat Aziz Russell, Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) Senior VicePresident Amal Podder, Shin Shin Group Chairman Mohammad Sohel Sadat, Britannia Garment Packaging Assistant Director Alvin Ahmed, Giant Group Director Sharmeen Hassan Tithi, and Prof Khan.
Rajib Singha, vice president of HR and Admin at Pearl Global Industries Ltd (PGIL), delivered the keynote address.
The afternoon session included a prize-giving ceremony recognising competition winners, followed by a fashion show, a cultural event, and a concert, marking the official end of the two-day programme.
