Dhaka, Sept 15 (BDNEWS) – With a view to developing the communications in the country's northern region, Onetel Communications Ltd, another private land-phone operator, launched its operation Thursday.
Disclosing this at a press conference, Asif Rabbani, Managing Director, said that they would commercially launch its wireless fixed phone service under the brand name of Onetel on September 22.
Onetel Chief Executive Officer AR Saber, its Head of Marketing and Sales Mahtabul Amin, Head of Billing and IT Anwarul Islam and their Technological partner UTStarcom's senior vice President Jerry Soloway attended the conference at Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre.
Asif Rabbani told newsmen that at present they had covered their network in five district towns including Rajshahi, Rangpur, Bogra, Pabna and Sirajganj while the remaining 11 district towns of Rajshahi division would be brought under the network by December this year. In the first phase they would provide 10,000 connections by December this year while another 50,000 connections by July next year.
He hoped that with the investment of Tk 80 crore, the Onetel would cover all upazilas of Rajshahi division by the end of next year. It would provide 1,80,000 connections covering the entire approved area including all upazilas.
Onetel would provide connection at Tk 7,000 to Tk 8,000 based on different phone sets with wireless phone solution, which would cover different facilities- caller ID, voice mail, short message service (SMS) and internet through a wireless terminal setting up in houses.
The tariff rate of post-paid service of OneTel is Tk 0.50 to Tk 5 per minute during peak hour and Tk 0.33 to 4 per minute during off peak hour while for the pre-paid service it is Tk 0.66 to Tk 5.5 per minute during peak hour and Tk 0.50 and 4.50 per minute during off peak hour.
Onetel Chief Executive Officer AR Saber said that the post-paid land phone-connections would be ensured within 72 hours after receiving the application.
