“Easy Net will help our customers learn about the internet and harness the power of knowledge to move ahead in their lives,” Yasir Azman, GP’s chief marketing officer, said at a media call in Dhaka on Sunday.
He said GP customers can enjoy the service for free without subscribing to any internet packages.
A GP media release said customers will have to dial *500*55# to receive a link from which they can learn about internet.
They will be allowed to use selected websites such as Facebook and Wikipedia for free.
Customers can also subscribe to small internet packages through the link.
Launched in 1997, GP is Bangladesh’s largest mobile service provider with 53.129 million subscribers as of second quarter of 2015.
GP, which introduced third-generation mobile services in all 64 districts, holds a 42 per cent market share of mobile users in the country.
The company has over 10 million internet subscribers and says it plans to increase the number to 50 million by 2019.
GP’s Chief Executive Officer Rajeev Sethi, in the statement, identified lack of awareness about internet as the main obstacle to spreading data services.
“We believe Easy Net will help us reduce this barrier significantly,” he said.
