The struggling airliner announced the appointment through a media statement.

The appointment came after nearly 11 months after former MD retired Air Commodore Zakiul Islam’s tenure ended on Apr 25 last year.
Biman’s Procurement and Reservation Division’s Director Mosaddek Ahmed had been the Acting MD while the Planning Division’s Director Capt Sheikh Naser Ahmed had been the Acting CEO.
Steele has more than 30 years of experience in the aviation industry. He has worked at the British Airways’ Singapore, China, South Africa, India, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia stations.
The flag carrier issued a circular on May 24 last year to recruit a new Managing Director.
A total of 42 candidates vied for the post. After elaborate selection procedure, the Biman chose Steele.
Steele had been working as Senior Vice President (Commercial) of Nigerian airline Arik Air Limited since 2010. The MD is well-versed in Mandarin, French and German. He also has working knowledge of Hindi and Malay.
The statement said Steele is a fellow and member of Chartered Institute of Transport and also a member of the Institute of Marketing Management.
