Selim RF Hussain, managing director and CEO of BRAC Bank PLC, has resigned from his position.

Speaking to bdnews24.com on Tuesday, he said: “Working here was no longer fitting. So I resigned. I don’t want to comment on this matter.”

Earlier, Selim submitted his resignation to the bank’s board of directors citing personal reasons.

In a statement, the bank said the board has accepted his letter and has sought the required approval from Bangladesh Bank according to regulations.

Tareq Refat Ullah Khan, additional managing director and head of the Corporate and Institutional Banking Division, has been given the role of acting managing director and chief executive officer, according to the statement.

Selim has been serving as the bank’s managing director and CEO since 2015. His tenure as managing director was supposed to continue until March 2026.

In a letter to the bank’s employees following the resignation, he wrote that all good things come to an end -- and so too has his time at BRAC Bank.

“[Tuesday] is probably my last working day at BRAC Bank. It has been a great honour for me to work with you all for almost ten years. Together, we have built an exceptional institution that has established itself as a model in the country’s banking sector.”

He added, “I firmly believe that BRAC Bank will continue to thrive in the future and play an even more significant role in the country’s economy and society. I wish you all greater success and progress in your personal and professional lives in the days ahead.”
