US-Bangla says its dual-airline model follows global industry practice

It says the group also plans to expand into healthcare and technology alongside aviation

US-Bangla Group has defended operating two airlines under the same corporate umbrella, citing similar business models adopted by major aviation groups worldwide.

During a press conference in Cox’s Bazar on Sunday, Managing Director Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun said Tata Group in India operates multiple airlines, including Air India and Air India Express, while Malaysia Airlines, Firefly and Air Arabia also follow comparable models.

According to Mamun, US-Bangla Airlines will operate as a full-service carrier, while Air Astra will follow a low-cost model to cater to different passenger needs.

Responding to questions over recent technical issues involving US-Bangla aircraft, he said such faults could occur at any airline but stressed that the carrier never compromises on safety and strictly follows manufacturers' guidelines.

He also urged social media users and some media outlets not to spread or publish unverified and exaggerated reports.

Looking ahead, Mamun said the airline plans to serve 30 destinations in 20 countries by December 2027 with 21 additional aircraft, featuring wireless streaming, free in-flight internet and mobile charging at every seat.

He added that the group also plans to invest in healthcare and technology, including international-standard hospitals, data centres and skilled workforce development.
