Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Haridas Kumar granted the remand request on Sunday, said Police Assistant Commissioner Amulla Kumar Chowdhury.

Investigation Officer Jalalabad Police Station OC Shafiqul Islam requested a seven-day remand after bringing Faizul’s parents and uncle to court, he said.

“The magistrate granted a five-day remand for Faizul’s uncle Fazlur Rahman and father Atiqur Rahman and a two-day remand for his mother Minara Begum.”

Police received a 10-day remand for Faizul on Thursday.

Prof Iqbal was attacked by Faizul during an event on Shahjalal University of Science and Technology in Sylhet on Mar 3. The attacker was detained by students and teachers at the university and later handed over to police.

SUST Registrar Ishfaqul Hossain filed a complaint naming Faizul as the prime suspect that night. Faizul’s parents and uncle were detained by police soon afterwards.
