Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed authorities to make government procurement more competitive, instructing them to change associated regulations to build a more open purchasing process.
“The prime minister asked the authorities to ensure that competition in public procurement is more open and freer” Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain said at a briefing after a cabinet meeting presided over by Hasina on Monday.
“It has been seen that many companies who do not have the capacity are still getting work, which is causing a long delay in our development projects. To get out of this, the premier instructed us to change the related regulations, making government procurement more competitive and open.”
No initiative has been taken yet to implement the premier’s order, the cabinet secretary said, adding that the authorities will start to work accordingly soon.
