Yunus mourns Piash Karim

Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has expressed deep shock at the death of controversial TV commentator Piash Karim.

BRAC University teacher Karim died on Monday after a cardiac arrest.

In a statement, Yunus dubbed Karim as a "fearless and principled intellectual" whose death was a great loss.

Karim was widely criticised for his various remarks on the Ganajagaran Mancha and trials of suspected war criminals.

Yunus, in his condolence message said, the teacher won the heart of all Bangladeshis by his "dedication to speaking truth".

"His analytical mind and commitment to truth inspired the whole nation," he said and prayed for Karim's soul.
