Mélange of minds

The new committee was announced on Friday during the society's annual reunion on the Dhaka University campus.

The Department of English was opened at the university's inception in 1921 but the alumni society was established four decades later in 1986.

They observed a minute's silence in memory of eminent author and educationist Prof Zillur Rahman Siddiqui who died in November last year.

Department's Chair Prof Tahmina Ahmed made the opening remarks.

EDAS General Secretary Khalidi presented the annual report. President Sattar, too, spoke on the occasion.

Prof Fakhrul Alam, election commissioner of the EDAS, announced the new committee at the end of the programme.
