Chittagong, April 26 (BDNEWS)- The University of Science and Technology Chittagong (USTC) is one of the leading private universities of the country. It started its journey in 1992 with a commitment to provide quality and standard education on science and technology and other social sciences.
Prior to the present identity it was known as The Institute of Applied Sciences, which was established on May 13 in 1989 with 42 students. National Professor Dr. Nurul Islam was its founding president. Now it has four faculties, 11 subjects. More than 30 percent of its students are foreign.
Prof. Islam, the founder Vice Chancellor (VC) of the university told the visiting journalists that they are going to construct a 16-story academic building, 8-story Zia International Institute of Business Administration building and a nursing institute within this year to ensure wide and congenial academic environment.
The USTC students have expressed their optimism that the university would be turned into an ideal center of quality education and medicare services in future.
Farha Anjum, a 1st year MBBS student from Kashmir, India said they have every sort of facilities in the university. While asked about the teachers' quality and teaching system, she said, "We have highly qualified teachers and friendly environment on the campus and in the hostel."
Abu Saleh Muhammad Ali, a second year student of Pharmacy department told BDNEWS that the teachers are very co-operative and the quality of services of the university are satisfactory.
The USTC offers courses in BBA and MBA in its Faculty of Business Admission, B.Sc in Computer Science and Engineering in the Faculty of Science, Engineering & Technology, MBBS in the faculty of Medicine and B. Pharm in the Faculty of Basic Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
The USTC has 350-beded Bangabandhu Memorial Hospital within the campus comprising four full-fledged departments including Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry and Community Medicine, Laboratory, lecture rooms and adequate latest medial equipment.
More than 1,500 students including a total of 350 foreign students have been studying currently at the USTC. Foreign students have accommodation facilities.
Students said USTC offers attractive package of services including library & computer labs, students' counseling, latest auditorium, medical facilities and other games and cultural facilities.
