Meherpur, April 8 (BDNEWS) – Aruna Parvin, a student of class four of Tengarmath village of Meherpur sadar upazila, was beaten to death by her stepmother, police and locals said Friday.
Police, quoting local sources, said the minor girl met the tragic end of her life when her stepmother Afroza beat her up mercilessly and also struck with a 'khunti' (a cooking tool) claiming her of eating too much rice on Thursday night.
"Afroza dragged sleeping Aruna to the yard and started kicking her and at one stage she brutally struck her with a khunti," local sources said.
Though the neighbours protested, Aruna did not get herself rid of her cruel mother. When she had succumbed to her injuries. Afroza fled after putting the body on the ceiling wrapping in a sack.
Locals and police said, Aruna lived with her stepmother as her own mother eloped.
Afroza remains at large till the filing of the report.
A case was filed with the Meherpur thana.
