Mahmudur Rahman was stirring up religious passions by tailoring the coverage in his newspaper, Ganajagaran Mancha spokesperson Imran H Sarker said.

“He should have been arrested much earlier , but better late than never," Sarker said.

Mahmudur Rahman was arrested on a cyber crime charge for hacking the Skype account of war crimes tribunal judge Nizamul Huq.

The rule of law will be established through strong legal action , another Ganajagaran Mancha spokesperson Maruf Rasool said.

Ganajagaran Mancha have been demanding arrest of Mahmudur Rahman since February. They submitted a memorandum to Home Minister MK Alamgir on Feb 26 demanding his arrest.

They said Mahmudur Rahman is the moving force behind the disinformation campaign against bloggers and online activists leading Shahbagh's Ganajagaran Mancha.

On Feb 22, Amar Desh’s lead news headline, roughly translated from English, read, “Bloggers committing contempt of religion and court”.
