The former secretary has succeeded Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury, who headed the commission for six years.
Dhaka University law professor Chowdhury’s second tenure ended on June 23.
Law ministry’s Senior Information Officer Md Rezaul Karim confirmed bdnews24.com on Tuesday that the order on Mizanur’s successor Reazul's appointment had been circulated.
After getting his masters degree from the Dhaka University, Reazul Hoque joined the civil service. He retired in 2006.
Having served in local administration, autonomous institutions and in the Bangladesh Secretariat, he had been a full- time member of the commission.
After his retirement from public service, Hoque had also served as the executive director of the Legal Education and Training Institute (LETI) at Bangladesh Bar Council.
He studied law, public administration and management at several institutions at home and abroad, including Bangladesh Civil Service Academy, Birmingham University, British Civil Service College and International Law Institute.
As the NHRC chairman, he will get facilities equivalent to an Appellate Division judge.
Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury is the chief of the committee to choose NHRC chairman and members.
The government goes by the committee’s recommendation to make the appointments.
