Two motorcyclists have been killed in separate road crashes in Satkhira.
The crashes occurred at Chhaygharia intersection in Sadar Upazila and on the Patkelghata Overbridge in Tala Upazila on Saturday night.
The dead were Mehedi Hasan Sabuj, 28, of Ashashuni village in Ashashuni Upazila, and Rakibul Hasan, 19, of Bala Danga village in Sadar Upazila.
Sadar Police chief Md Mahmudur Rahman said a motorcycle collided head-on with a van or three-wheeler at Chhaygharia intersection on the Satkhira-Jashore road around 8:30pm.
The motorcycle rider, Rakibul, was critically injured in the crash.
He was rescued and taken to Satkhira Medical College Hospital, where a doctor in the emergency department declared him dead, the police officer said.
In a separate incident, a covered van ran over a motorcycle on the Patkelghata Overbridge on the Khulna-Satkhira Highway around 9:30pm, said Patkelghata Police chief Md Shafiqul Islam.
The covered van fled the scene after hitting the motorcycle, he said.
The motorcycle rider, Mehedi, died at the scene after being run over by the van, according to police.
Mehedi was working as a representative for a pharmaceutical company in Dumuria.
The two police officers said the bodies of the victims were recovered and sent to Satkhira Sadar Hospital for postmortem examination.
Preparations are under way for further legal action in connection with the crashes, they said.
