She inaugurated the centre located beside the Pautakhali-Mirjaganj highway in Itbari area, two kilometres off the district headquarters, on Thursday afternoon

The base has been built under the Ministry of Home Affairs on 23.68 acres of land with an expenditure of over Tk 435 million.

Commanding officer of the Agrajatra Rezaul Hasan said the training centre includes 19 buildings and seven different structures.

The prime minister flew to Patuakhali on a helicopter and landed there around 2pm.

Sheikh Hasina took salutes from the coast guard personnel at the Agrajatra parade ground. Later she opened the facility.

The Prime Minister was hopeful that the training centre would play a vital role in training coast guards to ensure the safety of fishermen and in securing the naval and sea routes.

She laid foundations of four development projects and eight other institutions, including Patuakhali Server Station, on the occasion.
